Start your day with a burst of creativity
Join Write & Shine for ‘Mrs Dalloway’s Flowers,’ a morning writing workshop in the elegant, light-filled Keynes Library overlooking Gordon Square.
To kick off Dalloway Day, we’ll begin at the beginning: with the first line of Virginia Woolf’s iconic novel: “Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself.” We’ll explore the beauty and symbolism of Woolf’s floral descriptions, considering the role flowers, trees and nature play in her storytelling as a way to inspire new writing of our own.
The workshop is led by author Gemma Seltzer and takes place in the morning: the best time to think, dream and imagine! In Write & Shine workshops, you won’t be expected to share your writing, which encourages all kinds of unexpected ideas to emerge.

Dalloway Day is the RSL’s annual celebration of Mrs Dalloway and other writings by and inspired by Virginia Woolf. This year, marking 99 years since the initial publication of the iconic book that takes place over a Wednesday in mid-June. This year our events are taking place over a few days at Birkbeck College, using spaces in the college which are part of the former home of Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell.
